HistoryThe Bozeman Track Club evolved in the late 80’s with its founder Dave Skelton recognized the ambition of local high school athletes in the greater Gallatin valley area having a special interest in the indoor track & field season. Beginning with six athletes in 1989, the track club now boasts over 100 members actively participating in track & field, cross-country, and road races. In 1996 the track club started an outdoor track & field season for younger athletes and six years later developed an elementary/middle school cross-country program for the Bozeman school district in 2002. The club»s goals are to encourage and help young people to develop physically, emotionally and socially through their involvement in the sports of track and field and cross-country. Also to improve their physical conditioning as they learn skills related to track & field and cross-country. They will build a positive self–image as they recognize their individual achievements. They will be part of a team that encourages and promotes the development of friendships, good sportsmanship, encouragement of fellow athletes, and a positive experience in all aspects. StructureClub membership focuses primarily on young athletes between the ages of 6 to 18 years old. However, the track club also Includes "open" and "masters" athletes. Public, private and home school children living in the greater Gallatin valley are welcome to participate in the program. Experience and knowledge in competition is not necessary and all levels of skill and ability are welcome. At the close of the high school season, members join the younger age groups to participate in the USATF Junior Olympic programs during track & field and cross-country. The club annually hosts or participates in a number of youth competitions including:
